What You Need To Know About Gender-Neutral Pricing

ShineForth Salon recently changed to gender-neutral pricing to be able to serve clients better. Most hair salons have been separated by gender for as long as I can remember,  and I thought it was the perfect time to make the switch.

Woman's hand cutting hair

The assumption is that most women take the brunt of the cost because longer hair means more work, hair products, and even tools. However, just because men have shorter hair and thus may require less work doesn’t mean women can’t enjoy the same experience at the same cost. Seeing that traditional hair salon pricing is becoming too outdated, I decided to work on the repricing of my services for the benefit of my customers.

For the Look You Want To Express

I know that getting a haircut is an essential and practical part of our lives. Many consider it an act of self-care, and I believe so, too! My salon’s gender-neutral pricing and hourly pricing structure are my way of inspiring change in the community. As a hairstylist, I want my guests to feel comfortable without the need to identify where they fit in the gender spectrum. If they want their hair styled, cut, or colored a certain way, I’m just here to make it happen.

Hourly-Based Pricing Optimizes the Salon’s Schedule

I like to maximize my time when I work at the salon. This structure allows me to spend enough time with each client and talk to them about hair products, tips, and more while working on their desired haircut. It also gives me enough downtime to prepare for my next appointment.

All About Transparency

This is important for client loyalty. Customers appreciate honesty, especially when it comes to pricing because they know where their money goes. For instance, if clients want to change their hairstyle from long to short, it would cost them less because the time spent working on their hair is also less.

In addition to this structure’s economic value (it benefits small businesses a whole lot), gender-neutral pricing plays a huge role in building a more inclusive culture. When you look at today’s hair trends, more men are rocking longer hair while more women are sporting shorter cuts. I want to “break the bias,” if you will, about how people wear their hair.

Quality Over Everything Else

At the end of the day, my goal is to give clients the best haircuts they’ve ever had at a price they’re happy with. You deserve to get your dream hairstyle regardless of gender, and I want you to know that ShineForth Salon is an open space for all.
